Lawrence Carl Lokko, coach of Commonwealth Lightweight Champion, Richard Oblitey Commey, has said they are looking forward to a world title shot by the close of the year.

Speaking in an interview with the GNA Sports, Lokko said his boxer had been training in the United Kingdom, since winning his last fight in Denmark against Samir Ziani of France.

According to him, his boxer was in the best of shapes and the management are making arrangements for him to fight another opponent in February.

He said, Commey is currently rated 12th by the International Boxing Federation (IBF), 13th by the World Boxing Organisation (WBC) and 20th by the World Boxing Council (WBC), which is an indication that, with a little effort he will get a title shot.

Lokko  said that, there were plans to organise more fights for the boxer to keep him in shape and improve his ranking and was confident the arrangements will help them realise the desired target of making an attempt at the world title.

The coach said, his boxer had been sparring with Carl Frampton, the current IBF Super Batamweight champion over the last few weeks, adding that the Briton will give him the necessary preparation for the fights ahead.

“We have come a long way and we are not in the mood to let go any opportunity. My boxer has been working hard over the past days just to get himself ready for any opportunity that will come his way.

“I have every confidence that, any time he is given an opportunity he will make himself and the nation proud.”

Oblitey Commey, has in recent times remained one of the most consistent boxers in Ghana and has been voted Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Professional Boxer of the year.
