Construction of public university in Eastern Region to start
A fifteen- member Eastern Regional Site Advisory Committee for the University of Environment and Sustainable Development has been inaugurated in Koforidua.
The committee which among other things is to provide technical advice in the selection of sites for the physical construction of projects towards the establishment of the university is under the chairmanship of Mr Rudolf K. Sambo, Regional Coordinating Director with Mr James Dadson , Regional Lands Officer as the Secretary.
Inaugurating the committee, the Regional Minister, Mr Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere said so far the site for the main campus of the university at Trom, near Somanya had been procured and the acquisition of the other campus site at Donkorkrom is in progress.
He said government had also made provision for funding for the construction works to begin under the 2015 budget, while the curriculum of the university was developed by a team – and it is currently before cabinet for scrutiny before presenting it to Parliament.
Mr Boasiako –Sekyere said, a Planning Committee under the chairmanship of Dr Christina Amoako Nuamah is in place. Dr Amoako Nuamah is the Chairman of the Council of State.
He said, the Regional Site Advisory Committee of the University would be expected to provide professional and technical direction on all issues related to the acquisition, processing and procedure related to site preparation.
The establishment of a public university in the Region was a campaign promise of President John Dramani Mahama.
