Accountant-General suspends January salary of some public sector employees
The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD), says it has suspended the January salary of some public sector workers on the mechanized payroll.
In a press release published on its website, it says, “The Controller and Accountant General wishes to inform heads of MDAs/MMDAs and employees on the mechanized payroll that salaries for January 2015 has been paid. However, some employees in the Greater Accra Region could not be paid because heads of management units did not validate and certify their employees to be paid for the month of January, 2015.”
“The validation and certification of the payment vouchers however is a mandatory requirement for payment of salaries of employees in a management unit,” the statement added.
It however noted that the affected heads of departments and employees have a window of opportunity.
“The CAGD wishes to inform the affected heads of departments and employees that a window of opportunity has been provided for the management units heads who did not validate their employees to do so between Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th January, 2015 to enable CAGD prepare a supplementary payroll for the affected employees for payment by 2nd February, 2015,” it said.
According to the statement, the affected management unit heads have already been advised of the opportunity to validate their employees for the month of January, 2015.
The statement further advised heads of departments and management units to take note of government policy and Regulation 304 of the Financial Administration, Regulation, 2004 (LI 1802) which requires heads of departments and management units to validate and certify their payment vouchers before their salaries could be paid by the CAGD.
