Ben Malor returns to UN with promotion after turbulent time at Ghana’s presidency
Ben Dotse Malor, the former Communications Advisor to the President of Ghana has returned to the United Nations and has been promoted, sources in New York City have told ghanabusinessnews.com.
The sources told ghanabusinessnews.com, Mr Malor who has returned to his base in New York City would head the Public Information Unit at the UN Headquarters.
Information about Mr. Malor’s departure from the presidency has been hazy, but his tenure was turbulent, according to sources familiar with internal workings at the presidency.
Meanwhile, impeccable sources close to the presidency told ghanabusinessnews.com that he resigned voluntarily.
News about his departure including releases from the presidency however, seem to make the matter even cloudier.
But some sources close to the presidency believe some hawks in the ruling party saw him and some others at the presidency as outsiders and undeserving of their positions.
Another source that didn’t want to be named gave details of how Mr. Malor joined the government to ghanabusinessnews.com. The source said Mr. Malor accepted a formal request from the president for him to be temporarily released by the UN to in bringing sanity into the president’s communications.
“However, since his appointment in January 2014, some key individuals at the presidency have deliberately sabotaged and consistently undermined his authority to function, including planting stories in certain newspapers. These were done by individuals who believed they should have been given the job of Communications Advisor,” the source added.
One source said, “these same individuals planted the story about the Chief of Staff’s dismissal.”
“But this false information was however countered by the Chief of Staff, who in order to prove that he was still in charge, issued a statement about the resignation of the two professionals,” the source added.
Mr. Malor, and the president’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Raymond Atuguba have resigned their positions at the office of the president.
Dr. Atuguba one of Ghana’s highly respected lawyers with a global appeal returned to the Faculty of Law at the University of Ghana over a month ago, a decision that he had made known to his students. He has always been a law professor at the University. He is expected to start teaching next week.
Mr Malor, a journalist, has worked for several years with the BBC Africa Service and UN Radio.
