South Africa’s youth team captain, Madisha Modjeka has said his side will seek to get even with Ghana when both meet at the African Youth Championship (AYC), in Senegal.

Modjeka says the team was motivated to repay Ghana in their own coin following the Black Stars’ 2-1 win over the Bafana Bafana at the last African Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.

“There is this rivalry developing between Ghana and South Africa. We remember what happened between our senior teams at the Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.

“We meet again at this level at the group stage and it would be nice to get even on Monday. It will be very nice.”

The Sundowns’ defender reckons the challenge of defeating the Satellites who are chasing a fourth continental glory will require more than just a wish to get even.

He said, “Considering Ghana’s reputation in junior tournaments, this will not come easy.  However, we know that to be the best on the continent or in the world means  standing up against the so-called giants.”
The last time both sides met at this level was in Rwanda, where Ghana conquered the continent before ruling the globe months on in Egypt. The Satellites won their semi final clash with the Amajitas 4-3 in that edition in 2009.

Ghana is chasing a fourth continental glory at the biannual gathering of eight teams.

The tournament serves the qualifiers for Africa’s four representatives for the next FIFA World Youth Championship in New Zealand in May.
