OATUU sacks Secretary General
The Organization of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU) has resolved to terminate the appointment of the Secretary General, Comrade Owei Lakemfa who was elected in 2012.
A communiqué by OATTU said Comrade Lakemfa’s appointment was terminated due to “gross violations of the OATTU constitution and misconduct.”
In his place, Comrade Arezki Mezhoud has been appointed as the acting Secretary General until the next congress.
These were contained in the communiqué issued at the end of its 38th session in Asmara, Eritrea which was attended by trade union leaders from 35 African countries.
The general council also adopted a resolution on the right to strike, declaring it as a fundamental right at work and called on OATTU’s partners to join the global campaigns to defend and promote the right to strike.
