Chinese FDI is biggest in Ghana in 2014 – Official

China2Chinese foreign direct investment is the biggest in Ghana in 2014, an official of the Chinese Embassy in Ghana has said.

“In 2014, statistics about China-Ghana cooperation are inspiring. Ghana’s export to China and Chinese Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows to Ghana both surpassed one billion dollars, making China the biggest investor of Ghana in the past year,” Zhou Youbin, Charge d’Affaires at the Chinese Embassy in Ghana has been cited by media reports as saying on March 19, 2015.

According to China government information available elsewhere, the statistics indicate the bilateral trading volume between China and Ghana registered around $5.4 billion in 2012, with an increase of 56.5% over the previous year.

Ghana’s export volume to China in 2012 went up 77.2%. The number of newly registered Chinese investment projects topped Ghana’s FDI list in 2012.

In 2013, the trading volume between China and Ghana in the first seven months reached $2.9 billion.

Ghana’s export volume to China during this period saw a year-on-year increase of 2.3%. The value of newly-signed contracts soared up to about $1.4 billion while the non-financial FDI reached $101 million.
