National Health Insurance Authority pays more than GH¢2m to Nkoranza service providers

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) had paid GH¢2,665,993.23 to accredited health service providers in the Nkoranza South Municipality and the Nkoranza North District as at August 2014.

Mr. Kingsford Opoku-Gyamfi, the Manager of the NHIA, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after a Stakeholders Annual Review Meeting of the Authority, on Friday, at Nkoranza in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

Mr. Opoku-Gyamfi said the payment covered 2014 and explained that the NHIA’s current indebtedness to the health service providers for 2014 was GH¢1,663,615.99.

He gave the assurance that the NHIA was doing everything possible to clear all arrears and, therefore, appealed to accredited health facilities in both Nkoranza South and North to offer the necessary health services to the National Health Insurance Scheme’s clients without asking for ‘co-payment’.

“The fact that there are arrears to be paid does not warrant any NHIA accredited health service provider to do co-payment,” Mr. Opoku-Gyamfi stressed.

Co-payment means NHI accredited health facilities demanding cash payment from NHIA card-bearers before giving them treatment and medication.
