AfDB provides additional $300m financial support to Ebola affected countries

AfDBThe African Development Bank (AfDB) has announced an additional $300 million financial support to the three countries hard hit by the Ebola disease. The countries, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Liberia have been ravaged by the Ebola disease since it broke out.

President of the Bank, Donald Kaberuka made the announcement at the ongoing World Bank-IMF Spring Meetings in Washington DC, USA.

This latest amount brings the total AfDB support for the countries to $823 million as of April 2015.

The Bank says it has mobilized the total amount so far for 12 operations in West Africa.

The funding the Bank says would provide support to governments of Ebola-affected countries by investing in health, education, water and sanitation, agriculture and financial sectors.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) a total of 25,791 confirmed, probable, and suspected cases of Ebola have been reported in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone with over 10,600 reported deaths since the outbreak began.
