Nigerian Army troops have reportedly recovered video recordings of what has been described as ‘heinous crimes’ committed by the Islamist group Boko Haram, a Nigeria news outlet, Leadership reports.
The publication indicates that the Director, Defence Information, Maj. Gen. Chris Olukolade, has confirmed that the troops have recovered video recordings of some heinous acts perpetrated by the Boko Haram insurgents.
However, Olukolade refused to disclose further information about the crimes against humanity captured in the videos in the possession of the military, the publication notes.
“It is true that troops have captured some video recordings of the terrorists but I would not want to say anything on that for now,” Maj. Olukolade was quoted as saying.
Olukolade also confirmed to an Abuja based media consultancy firm to security agencies, the PR Nigeria, that the videos recovered from the group were being analysed by the military, it added.
In recent times the Nigerian military together with the Chadian military have launched counter attacks against the group that have for over ive years targeted and killed civilians in mostly north-eastern Nigeria, often abducting women and girls.
The group whose name Boko Haram means Western education is sin has pledged allegiance to the so-called Islamic State also known as ISIS.
