Michael Essien joins Panathinaikos
Michael Essien has sealed a two-year switch from AC Milan to Greek side, Panathinaikos.
Essien, 32, finalized his switch from the Italian club on Wednesday, in a deal reportedly worth €1 million annually.
The midfielder said after the deal was announced that, “I am very happy that I am here and that I will continue my career in Panathinaikos.
“I am looking forward to meet my new team and win trophies with my new team mates. I want to give back the love that everyone has shown me and to thank the fans that welcomed me so warmly.”
Essien who arrived in Athens on Monday to a massive welcome by supporters prior to his medical joins the Greek club with a rich record.
The midfielder is a league title winner with French side, Lyon. The player who joined English side Chelsea in 2006 won three Premier League titles and the Champions League with the latter.
The player who enjoyed a loan spell with Spanish giants, Real Madrid where he featured 20 times and scored two goals had a torrid time with injuries in the closing moments of his time with the West London club.
Essien earned a-year-long switch with Milan in 2014, making 22 appearances for the former champions.
