Korle-bu Hospital sacks pharmacy officials following loss of over GH¢900,000

Korle-buThe Korle-bu Teaching Hospital Board has terminated the appointment of some officials due to gross incompetence and dereliction of duty in the management and day-to-day operations of the 24-Hour Pharmacy.

The affected persons are Mrs Elizabeth Bruce, Director of Pharmacy and also Director of 24-Hour Pharmacy; Mr Eric Kwaku Kyei, Principal Pharmacist/ Pharmacy Manager; Mrs Augustina Dankyi, Pharmacy Accountant; and Mr Daniel Eledi, Stores Assistant.

This, the Hospital, said follows a forensic audit commissioned by Ministry of Health last year which established that GH₵ 946,574.29 could not be accounted for from sales revenue at the 24- Hour Pharmacy.

An administrative enquiry commissioned by the Board subsequently established the culpability of the four individuals in respect of the unaccounted for the amount.

“The Board, thus, convened an emergency meeting on Wednesday, June 17, and decided to terminate the appointment of the four,” a statement from hospital copied to the GNA said.

The Board said its decision is without prejudice to the ongoing criminal investigations being carried out by the Economic and Organised Crime Organisation in respect to the unaccounted funds.

It said: “The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital Board wishes to inform the staff and all other stakeholders that it remains committed to ensure that the assets of the hospital are protected.

“The Board, in exercising its mandate to ensure good governance, transparency and accountability in the management of the hospital, has directed management to carry out relevant internal processes and procedures on all other operations of Korle Bu with the view of putting in place robust systems and processes to forestall the (occurrence of such activities)”, the statement said.
