StarTimes initiates arbitration proceedings against Ghana at ICC over termination of digital migration contract

StarTimes has started arbitration proceedings at the London-based International Commercial Court (ICC) against Ghana following the termination of the contract to install the Digital Migration (DTT) project.

By a letter dated January 14, 2015, the Ministry of Communications (MoC) terminated the DTT contract.

StartTimes has used various means to settle the dispute, including direct communications, legal proceedings in Ghana and diplomatic efforts.

Notwithstanding this Government signed a new contract with K-Net Ltd on June 7, 2015.

In a notice of intent to sue dated June 4, 2015, StarTimes gave Government 30 days to resolve the matter satisfactorily or face court action.

A StarTimes source said since Government had gone ahead to sign a contract for the DTT, they had no option, but to sue Ghana at the ICC.
