Kufuor denies holding secret NPP meeting

Former President John Agyekum has expressed his dismay at a publication in the July 17, edition of the Herald newspaper purporting to be an account of proceedings of a ‘secret meeting’ held in his residence.

The former President wishes to state that, there has been no such “NPP Secret Meeting” in his residence.

A statement issued by Mr Frank Agyekum, Spokesperson/Special Aide to the former President said Mr Kufuor rather invited heads of some religious denominations, as well as prominent citizens of Ghana, who are neither members of the NPP nor even known sympathisers of the Party.

It said the guests were supposed to help him to broker peace and brotherly behaviour among some top hierarchy of the Party.

This was done openly in his house, and therefore fails to understand how anybody would describe such a gathering as a “secret meeting of the NPP”.

The choice of these heads of the Christian denominations was based on the fact that most of the members of the Party hierarchy involved in these “peace moves” belong to the churches headed by them.

“The meeting was neither adversarial nor inquisitorial. It was a very cordial and fruitful one; full of advice and exhortation to the hierarchy of the Party present.

“It is therefore unfortunate that anybody will describe it as ‘emotional,’” the statement said.
