MTN Mobile Money service has registered more than 4.8 million customers since its inception, Mr William Tettey, the General Manager, Capital Project Group, MTN has said.
Speaking during the launch of the 2015 MTN Mobile Money Month, Mr Tettey said the service had also listed 19,500 Mobile Money Merchants and 18.5 million monthly transactions.
The MTN Mobile Money Month, which was introduced in 2012, is celebrated in August each year to deepen awareness among Ghanaians on the benefits of the MTN mobile money service.
This year’s celebration is on the theme: ““Mobile Money, driving financial inclusion in Ghana.”
He said mobile money was now offering a wide range of services, including payment of utilities, DSTV bills, payment of schools fees and bulk payments.
He said after the introduction of the annual campaign, MTN Mobile Money was making strides in the country and beyond, enabling customers to receive money from abroad instantly on their phones.
“Ghanaians in the UK, Australia, Switzerland and Qatar are able to send money to their relatives and friends via this service,” he said.
He said some activities lined up for the month-long celebration, include the MTN Mobile Money Stakeholders workshop to discuss the theme, SME drive, market activations and hold a merchant fora to train them on fraud awareness.
