Religious newspaper launched
The “Revelation,” a non-denominational Christian newspaper has been launched in Accra, with emphasis on religion and development.
Mr Kabral Blay-Amihere, Chairman of the National Media Commission, speaking at the launch, tasked journalists to apply morals, values and beliefs in the exercise of their duties.
He said journalists should not concentrate too much on political issues, but rather pay attention to other equally important aspects of the society, such as religion and development.
He advised managers of the newspaper to make its circulation comprehensive to satisfy various needs of the public.
Mr Roland Affail Monnie, President of the Ghana Journalists Association, noted that the media most often refused to allocate much of its airtime and space to religious issues, unless something negative came up.
“I am happy that this newspaper has come to make amends in the operations and coverage of the media,” he said.
He expressed gratitude to the people behind the establishment of the newspaper, for providing a platform to bring about qualitative improvement in the journalism field.
Professor Edmund Delle, Managing Director of Rabito Clinic, advised the management of the newspaper to operate towards its aims and objectives, adding that good work paid itself.
Mr Kofi Yeboah, Founder and Editor of the newspaper, said although there were many Christian newspapers in the country, most of them were sympathetic to a particular church and its doctrines; hence the need to introduce a non-denominational one.
He said the idea of coming out with such initiative was developed in October 2014 to give journalism a different dimension.
He explained that the name “Revelation” was chosen for the paper to alert Christians on the need to apply their beliefs, as they practised their profession to promote development.
