Trade Ministry to establish “Batakari Friday”
The Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Ekow Spio-Garbrah is set to declare the first Friday of each month, ‘Batakari Friday’.
This announcement is expected on Friday September 4, 2015 at the ‘Grass is Greener Exhibition’ – a month-long exhibition by the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) and the World Bank Group Ghana to project the economic potential of the zone within SADA’s ambit and empower its people to harness it.
The exhibition is partnered by the Ministry of Trade & Industry, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts and Ghana Investment Promotion Centre.
It will feature the Batakari Exhibition: a showcase of the fashion and handicraft of the SADA zone, during which the Minister of Trade and Industry is expected to make the policy statement, and a photo and video exhibition of sights and sounds from the SADA zone, by photographer Rodney Quarcoo as well as an exhibition of the food and drinks of Ghana’s northern peoples.
The ‘Grass is Greener’ exhibition is expected to advance poverty reduction and wealth creation in the SADA zone by branding the region to attract investors and tourists, and building the capacity of the creative industries.
A fully packaged road show is also expected to follow the exhibition and to share insights of the region across the nation’s regional capitals.
