Armed robbers ransack NDC Cape Coast office
Armed robbers on Sunday dawn broke into the Central Regional office of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Cape Coast, ransacking the premises and making away with about GH₵ 3,000 and a television set.
The five robbers, who masked their faces entered the office of the party chairman through the back window and subsequently broke into the offices of the Vice Chairman, Secretary, Organiser and the Director of Elections.
According to Kobina Abekah, the security man at post, he saw the robbers around 1.00 hours midnight, but run for his life because two of them were armed with guns.
The Chairman of the party, Mr Allotey Jacobs in an interview with the Ghana News Agency expressed dismay by the act and said he believed the robbers came for a purpose.
“I am shocked because something of that sort has never happened before. I wonder what they were looking for, but looking at how they ransacked my office and that of the Director of Election, I believe they came with a purpose.”
“The administration block had many brand new computers but they did not attempt touching any of them. My office and that of the Director of Elections were ransacked; the motive behind the robbery was for information regarding our biometric registration,” he said.
Mr Jacobs however assured party faithful and sympathisers that all relevant information regarding their biometric cards and registrations remained safe and that the robbery would not in any way affect the operations of the party.
He said a formal complaint has been lodged at the Regional Police Headquarters through the Regional Minister who is the Head of Security.
Meanwhile the Police have assured the public that it would begin investigations into the incident as soon as possible to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
