Court grants driver GH¢55,000 bail for stealing GH¢49,000
A Tarkwa Circuit Court has granted a 25-year old driver bail in the sum of GH¢55,000.00 with two sureties for allegedly stealing GH¢49,000.00.
The accused person, Samuel Danso, pleaded not guilty to the offence and would re-appear before the Court on October 22.
Prosecuting, Police Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah, told the court, presided over by Mr. Justice Alex Obeng Asante that, about a month ago, the complainant, Florence Owusu Mensah, informed Danso, who drives one of her vehicles about her intentions to purchase a Toyota Hiace bus.
On July 12, this year, the accused told Florence that, he had some friends in Accra who sell the same kind of vehicles and that one is being offered for GH¢49,000.00.
According to the Prosecutor, Danso even sent the photographs of the said vehicle through a Whatsapp message to the complainant.
Madam Florence became convinced and gave the amount to Danso and asked him to go with one Gideon Ackomanyie, a fitting mechanic, to enable him examine the vehicle before payment was made.
The prosecutor said, Danso however, handed over the money to Ackomanyie for safe keeping and promised to meet him in Accra.
However, when the mechanic arrived in Accra, he did not find the vehicle at the place directed by Danso, and he therefore returned to Tarkwa with the money.
The next day, the accused called Ackomanyie on phone and asked him to transfer the money through his Zenith bank account with the explanation that he would personally purchase the vehicle in Tamale because the bus had been sent to the owner.
After the money had been transferred into his account, the accused refused to contact Ackomanyie and the complainant therefore a report was lodged with the police
Surprisingly, on July 24, Florence was at home when Danso, being led by his family members, came to inform her that armed robbers had attacked him and stolen the money from him in Tamale.
The complainant was not convinced and reported the matter to the police.
