NDC clears 86 aspirants to contest parliamentary primaries in Volta
A joint committee which vetted parliamentary aspirants for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta Region, has cleared 86 aspirants from 24 constituencies to contest the party’s parliamentary primaries on November 7.
A statement signed by the Volta Regional Secretary of the Party, Mr Simon Amegashie-Viglo, and copied to the Ghana News Agency said the committee with representations from national, regional and constituency executives cleared the aspirants including 12 females.
The Party said two sitting Members of Parliament, Fiifi Kwetey of Ketu South and Dr. James Klutse Avedzi, Ketu North, could not be vetted because they were on official duty outside the country and would have their turn when they came back.
It said the clearance of five aspirants from Nkwanta South has been put on hold for “further consultations”.
The vetting of Mr Albert Zigah and Mr Jim Morti from Ketu South and an aspirant from North Tongu, Mr Christopher Eleblu, have also been referred to National quarters for constitutional opinion on legal matters.
The statement said Mr Solomon Bachabori from Nkwanta North and Ahmed Muniru from the Akan constituency were disqualified on grounds of going independent in previous parliamentary elections.
The party said a third person, Mr Anthony Selorm Morrison Kofituo was also disqualified for misrepresentation of information on his curriculum vitae.
The vetting committee under the chairmanship of Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo vetted a total of 96 aspirants to contest the 26 parliamentary seats in the Region on the ticket of the NDC.
