Accra to host air traffic controllers’ conference

The annual conference of the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers (IFATCA) for the Africa and Middle East Region, would be held in Accra, from October 28 to October 30, 2015.

A statement from the Ghana Air Traffic Controllers’ Association (GHATCA), says the conference which would be held at the Accra International Conference Centre, would draw several “industry players” from around the globe, such as the International Civil Aviation Organisation and the International Transport Federation.

The statement said the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers’ (IFATCA) is the unified body of Air traffic controllers worldwide, which was formed through a passion for the air traffic control profession.

GHATCA said the IFATCA currently had one hundred and twenty seven member associations and over fifty thousand controllers, with the goal to promote safety in international air navigation, assist and advise in the development of safe and orderly systems of air traffic control, as well as promote and uphold a high standard of knowledge and professional efficiency among air traffic controllers.

It said to achieve this, IFATCA closely cooperates with national and international institutions concerned with air navigation.

IFATCA also sponsors and supports the passage of legislation and regulations which will increase and protect the safety of air navigation, and organises conferences for its members every year, to educate them on emerging trends in the industry.

GHATCA said it is an active member of IFATCA, since joining it in 1973
