Professor Thomas Mba Akabza, Chief Director, Ministry of Energy and Petroleum was on Friday adjudged the Best Performed Chief Director for 2014.

At a maiden Civil Service Excellence Awards organised by the Office of Head of Civil Service and Office of the President at Sogakope, Prof. Akabza was said to have met targets set in his performance agreement.
He was also said to have successfully carried out oversight responsibility work on the Kpone Thermal Plant, the TICO expansion project and work on the Atuabo Gas Infrastructure Project aimed at utilising gas from the country’s oil fields in the Western Region.
He also met targets on universal access to electricity under the national electrification scheme and promoted the use of renewable energy among others.
Nana Agyekum Dwamena, Head of Civil Service, said the ceremony was to recognise excellence in policy formulation and implementation among others and described Prof. Akabza as one of the best Chief Directors in the country.
He said the Service was monitoring all staffs from chief directors to the lowest rank and urged them to be transparent and citizen centred.
Nana Dwamena announced that a national award ceremony would be held in July next year during the civil service week celebration and charged civil servants to give off their best to the nation.
“We must be ready to serve the country with renewed vigour and tenacity. Our directors must give solid advice to politicians and we must take out procedures and processes which delay services to the public,” he stated.
Nana Dwamena said the Service was working towards being the best in Africa and that measures were being put in place to weed out corrupt officers in the Service.
Dr. Lawrence Kanae, Chairman of the evaluation team was hopeful yearly recognition of excellence would help inspire workers and help improve the image of the Service.
The award winners were given citations and plaques apart from educational trips abroad.
Prof. Akabza on behalf of award winners commended the Office of the Head of Civil Service and the Office of the President for the foresight and pledged the readiness of civil servants to contribute towards the rapid growth of the country.
