Voting in eight constituencies in NDC elections suspended
Voting to elect parliamentary candidates and to endorse President John Dramani Mahama as Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2016 General Election in eight constituencies in the Ashanti Region had been suspended.
This was necessitated by the insufficient presidential and parliamentary materials, late arrival of the materials and incomplete compilation of the electoral roll.
The affected constituencies include Manhyia North and South, Subin, Asante-Akim North, Atwima-Nwabiagya, Bosomtwe, New Edubaise and Ejisu.
Mr. Paul Boateng, the Ashanti Regional EC Director, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that, a new date would be fixed for the elections whenever the party is ready with a new register.
The situation had sparked some disturbances at the Ejura-Sekyedumase, Ahafo-Ano North and Suame constituencies, and efforts were being jointly made by the police and aspiring candidates to address the problem.
A total of 93 candidates, including 13 women and 14 unopposed candidates in the 47 constituencies with 192, 638 registered voters are expected to cast their ballots.
