President John Dramani Mahama says he is human and not perfect.
Giving his acceptance speech following an overwhelming endorsement by members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Party’s primaries over the weekend, he said, “I am not perfect as a human and I believe that no human can lay claim to perfection except the almighty God.”
President John Mahama reiterated the 95.1 per cent of endorsement that he received during the primaries.
“The Electoral Commission has just informed us, that with the results of 265 Constituencies tallied, I have obtained an endorsement of 95.1% from members of my party,” President Mahama said in his acceptance speech.
As the sole Presidential candidate of the party, members were expected to vote YES or NO.
The EC reported the following 1,199,118 representing 95.10 per cent of the total votes cast. 61,836 of members voted NO, representing 4.9% of the votes cast.
The total valid votes were 1,260,954 and there were 25,774 rejected votes representing two per cent of the total votes cast.
“We started out to create a modern political party, based on technology that is available to us in the 21st century, using ICT to create a modern database of our members.
We opened registration for all our members who wished to be registered
biometrically and be issued with NDC party ID cards,” he said.
Indicating that the results have been overwhelming, the President noted that more than one million people have filed to be registered in the Party’s database as members of “our great party.”
