Vice president invites Indian investors to partner government
Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has called for partnership between the government and Indian investors to exploit the country’s huge resources for mutual benefit of the two nations.
He said the government has already put in place the necessary building blocks for the economy to take off.
Vice President Amissah-Arthur made the call when he met a 20-member Indian Business delegation at the Flagstaff House in Accra.
The group is in the country to explored business opportunities and to partner Ghanaian businessmen to ensure value addition to the country’s resources.
Some of the areas the delegation intends to explore include agriculture, agro-processing, renewable energy, education, ICT, manufacturing and construction.
Vice President Amissah-Arthur also stated that Ghana enjoys significant social cohesion, political stability and governance which allows for elections to be held and government to changed on the basis of universal adult suffrage.
He said despite some infrastructure gaps and macro-economic challenges the government has gone ahead to invest in the real sector to generate employment and value addition.
He said India is known for its strong ICT and technology sector and as such it is better for us to relate to them than other countries.
Vice President Amissah-Arthur also said Ghana over the years has shown interest in developing relations with India for investment in agriculture, processing, transportation, renewable energy and basic technology.
He urged the Indian private sector to collaborate with their Ghanaian counterparts to identify areas of investment that the Indian businesses can complement government effort.
Mr Jeeva Sagar, Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, stated that Ghana is seen as a country with great democracy depth, peace and security in Africa and there is a lot of goodwill between the people of Ghana and India due to the long standing relations between the two countries, with a striking warmth and friendliness shown by Ghana to the Indian community over the years.
He said the large Ghanaian citizens of Indian Origin are contributing to the development of the country and called for more partnership between Ghanaian and Indian businesses in order to add value to the resources.
Mr Hemant Kumar Mahay, the Leader of the Indian Business delegation stated that the 20-man team which is made up of people from different companies and sectors including IT and telecommunications, agro-processing, construction, packaging, energy and water among others, is in Ghana to explore business opportunities and to partner Ghanaian businesses so that they can contribute to the economy for the mutual benefit of both countries.
