FIFA ethics committee to announce ruling on Blatter, Platini on Monday
The verdict on suspended FIFA president Joseph Blatter and UEFA boss Michel Platini will be announced on Monday, the spokesman of the adjudicatory chamber of the FIFA ethics committee confirms.
Spokesman Marc Tenbuecken said that the chamber headed by German Jans-Joachim Eckert, will deliberate this weekend and publish its verdict on Monday December 21.
Blatter and Platini face life bans if found guilty of corruption; or bans over several years in the case of conflict of interest; in connection with a “disloyal payment” of $2 million Platini received for FIFA work done between 1998 and 2002.
Blatter attended a hearing Thursday while Platini was represented by his lawyer Friday. Both men protest their innocence and while admitting that there was no written contract they say they had a verbal agreement.
A ban would end Platini’s ambition to succeed Blatter as FIFA boss in February.
