Food and Drugs Authority warns public to be vigilant in shopping
The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has called on the public to be mindful and avoid buying expired products during the festive period.
Mr Braimah Zakaria, the Upper East Regional Director of the Authority gave the caution during the destruction of expired food products confiscated at some markets in the Bolgatanga Municipality.
The expired products, worth about GH₵50,000, were seized during a Post Market Surveillance exercise.
He said there was the tendency that during the festive season, some manufacturers and retailers of goods would engage in market promotion to sell products that have expired.
He said whilst his outfit would continue to perform its mandated role of ensuring that manufacturers and retailers complied with the expected standards, consumers have the responsibility to ensure that they did not buy unwholesome goods.
“The safety of consumers lies in their own hands. It is therefore their responsibility to check out to see whether the package of the product is not defaced or expired before patronizing them”, Mr Zakaria said.
