Corruption not only evident in government- Anglican Bishop
The Right Reverend Dr Daniel Sylvanus MensahTorto, Anglican Bishop of Accra, has noted that although corruption is not only evident in government or among politicians the Executive should lead the way to fight it.
“The evidence is that corruption ruins the nation and society. Let the government leads us in combating corruption. There is a charge on each and all to cultivate,” Bishop Torto said in his 2015 Christmas message.
He has asked Ghanaians not to take the peace the country is enjoying for granted.
Bishop Torto said many political parties, notably the New Patriotic Party and the ruling National Democratic Congress have gone through their primaries to elect officers to steer the affairs of their parties as they gear up for Election 2016.
“There has been a few skirmishes here and there, but we should not lose sight of the basic fact that conceding defeat, or showing gestures of mutual respect to victors and losers alike is what has brought us this far.”
“The time on our hand now, is for serious work to secure the peace and security and dignity of each and all in the nation.
Bishop Torto called on the citizenry to pray that the nation’s leaders would be imbued with the right vision, sense of purpose and mission as would secure the peace, security and unity of Ghana.
He noted that the various party elections show evidence that “we are a divided nation”, however differences of opinion need not be allowed to degenerate into personality animosity, hostility and marginalisation of anyone.
“All must cultivate humility. Humility does not mean lying down to be walked all over. It is the disposition that refuses to think more highly of one’s self than one ought; it means the generosity to make excuses for all others than one ’s self, “he said.
Bishop Torto said: “Once again Ghana is seeing another gift of grace, unmerited favour from God as we brace ourselves for the upcoming Christmas and New Year festivities. For this, we Ghanaians must show and are showing gratitude to God the Almighty, the Creator who holds the whole world in the palm of His hand. “
