Drug pushers increase in Agona West
Mr Samuel Oppong, Agona West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has called on the security chiefs of the area to clamp down on drug pushers operating in the municipality.
He called on them to halt and help prevent the spread of narcotic drugs in Agona Swedru and its adjoining districts.
Speaking at the inauguration of Agona Swedru Coalition community Development, Mr Oppong said marijuana or “wee” and cocaine are easily available in the district causing considerable damage to the youth.
He said the police have major role to play to halt the drug menace.
The MCE said “while the pushers are still operating the consumers would never stop smoking them”.
He cautioned parents who send their children under 18 years to buy cigarette, akpeteshie and other hard liquor to stop the practice as this can compel their kids to imitate them.
The MCE called on the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to establish rehabilitation centers where drug addicts could be referred for treatment.
Chief Superintendent Issah Ahmed Yakubu, Agona Swedru Divisional Police Commander, said the police have arrested many wee smokers and cocaine dealers.
He said the main concern confronting the Police was the granting of bail to narcotic users and urged the people to inform the Police on activities suspected drug dealers in their areas.
