The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), has paid over GH¢6 billion claims to about 50 service providers in the Awutu-Effutu Senya area between January and May this year.
The money represents outstanding vetted claims for 2014, and January to May, 2015 submitted to the NHIA by the service providers.
Mr Sampson Agyiri Nyakoh, Awutu-Effutu-Senya area branch Manager of the NHIA, disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Winneba.
Mr Nyakoh said the NHIA also registered a total of 104,000 clients between January and November, 2015, while premium collected during the same period amounted to GH¢517,604.00.
The interview formed part of the annual stakeholders meeting organized by the branch scheme for 46 accredited service providers operating within the Kasoa catchment areas to round-off activities in the 2015 operational period.
Mr Nyakoh praised core officers and the entire workforce of the scheme for their co-operation and hard work which contributed to the attainment of the aims and objectives for the year.
Mr Isaac Ashalley, Mr Mohammed Lacina Diaby, and Mr Richard Odonkor Accountant, Management Information System Manager, and the Public Relations Officer of the scheme, respectively expressed gratitude to the management of the NHIA for declaring the facility as the best premium colleting in the country for 2014 and hoped to retain the position for this year.
The three core officers assured the Authority of the workers preparedness to co-operate fully to put in place more pragmatic strategies to achieve excellent results to push the NHIA Policy forward in the coming years.
Dr Joseph Akuamoah Somuah, a Medical Director of Saint Joe’s Hospital at Kasoa, who presided over the meeting, said the National Health Insurance Policy introduced in the country eleven years ago has come to improve the lot of many healthcare facilities.
He appealed to all NHIA accredited service providers to work hard to contribute their quota towards the full realization of its objectives.
