Ghana Black Princesses paired with USA in World Cup

FootballGhana’s national U20 female soccer team, the Black Princesses have been drawn in tough group in the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) Women’s U20 World Cup.

The Black Princesses were paired in Group C with three time record champions of the competition United States of America (USA) and two time semi-finalist France, while New Zealand enter the group as the minnows.

This will be Ghana’s fourth successive appearance at the world stage after the previous appearances ended in a first round elimination.

Africa’s other representative for the tournament, Nigeria are in Group B with Japan, Spain and Canada in the same group.

Hosts Papua New Guinea, will contest the tournament’s opening match against Brazil on 13 November.

“The U-20 Women’s World Cup is a great event,” FIFA President Gianni Infantino said.

“I’ve been to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea and it was a great experience. I can tell you the weather will be beautiful. What will be even more beautiful is that Papua New Guinea will greet the world and the world will discover Papua New Guinea. I’m sure Papua New Guinea will excel and I’m sure the 16 teams will as well on the pitch.” He said.

The final draw for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Papua New Guinea was held in Zurich on Thursday 17 March.

This will be the eighth edition of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup and will take place in Papua New Guinea between 13 November and 3 December 2016.
