Two jailed 25 years each for robbery
An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced Kwesi Asampana, a driver, and Dodzi Lovi, unemployed, to 25 years imprisonment each for conspiring and robbing two persons of their valuables in their home.
The convicts robbed Nana Ama Fabiaa Kyeremeh and Vida Oduro Marfo of various personal effects valued at GH¢8,300 and their cash of GH¢200.
The items are a Samsung tablet phone, a Samsung Note 3 mobile phone, an iPhone, a 32 inch-flat screen television, a power bank and a golden Rolex watch.
They both pleaded not guilty to the charges, but after a full trial they were found guilty by the Court, presided by Mr Aboagye Tandor. They are to serve 25 years each for conspiracy and 25 years each for robbery, but both of their jail terms would run concurrently.
In sentencing them, the Court said the Prosecution was able to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the two robbed the complainants and that the convicts acted together.
However, he said, the Court took into consideration the two months they had already spent in custody and their plea for mitigation.
“Nevertheless, their conduct cannot in anyway be countenanced and warrants a deterrent sentence to prevent the youth from engaging in such activities,” the judge explained.
The Prosecutor, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Patience Mario, had earlier told the Court that both of the complainants lived in the same house at Adjiringanor East Legon, in Accra.
She said on February 2, 2016, at about 0200 hours, the convicts, wielding knives and cutting pliers, invaded the house of the complainants, forced their doors opened and held them hostage.
Asampana and Lovi then robbed their victims, she said.
