President Mahama swears-in Bank of Ghana Governor
President John Dramani Mahama on Monday swore-in Dr Abdul-Nashiru Issahaku and Dr Johnson Asiamah as the Governor and Deputy Governor respectively of the Bank of Ghana.
President Mahama appointed the two a couple of weeks ago when Dr Kofi Wampah, the former Governor of the Central Bank, went on leave prior to his retirement.
After taking their Oaths of Office, President Mahama tasked them to work assiduously to bring down the inflation rate to make businesses flourish in the coming days.
He said the task ahead of them was arduous and he would, therefore, count on their experience to discharge their duties professionally for the betterment of all Ghanaians.
President Mahama implored them to be resolute on the dictates of their mandate and ensure that the demands of the International Monetary Fund were strictly adhered to in the performance of their duties.
The President gave the assurance that he would do everything possible under his purview to support the Central Bank to perform creditably.
President Mahama urged them to work closely with the Ministry of Finance in order to properly place the economy on stable grounds.
Dr Issahaku gave the assurance that the Bank of Ghana would not provide any financial support to government in adherence to ‘the zero finance to the Budget of Government.’
He promised to stay focused on their core mandate of reducing the inflation rate and stabilising the cedi to create congenial atmosphere for businesses and other enterprises to flourish.
Dr Issahaku pledged to work closely with the Ministry of Finance and other stakeholders in the economy to deliver for the good of Ghanaians and to attract investors.
