EC gives directives for replacing ID Card
The Electoral Commission (EC) has issued directives for the replacement of lost Voter Identification Cards with a warning to the electorates who have lost their ID Cards against registering in the on-going Limited Biometric Voter Registration Exercise.
“Electorates seeking to replace lost Voter ID cards are required to pay a replacement fee of GH¢5.00 into the EC’s Bank Account – number 1161130000275 – at the Boundary Road Branch of the Ghana Commercial Bank,” it said.
In a statement signed by Mr Amadu Sulley, EC’s Deputy Chairman in Charge of Operations, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, in Accra, advised that the Bank deposit slip should then be submitted to the district offices of the Commission where the persons registered for spot printing and the collection of their new ID cards.
The statement said the fee may be paid at any branch of GCB Bank nationwide.
“The Commission would like to use this opportunity to, once again, remind the general public that it is an offence to engage in multiple registrations and such persons will be dealt with in accordance with law, and their names taken off the Voters’ Register for a period of five years,” it said.
The limited registration exercise began, on Thursday, April 28, and it would end on Sunday, May 8, 2016.
“The EC, therefore, takes the opportunity to reiterate to the general public, that the limited registration exercise is for members of the public who have not previously registered,” it said.
