ICIJ Panama Papers database crashes minutes after going live

Panama Papers2Barely 10 minutes after going live, the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) Panama leaks database crashes.

Some weeks after the leaks, ICIJ promised to publish the full details contained in what has become known as the Panama Papers. The ICIJ, the lead organisation coordinating the publishing of the information in the papers, says it will finally release today May 9, 2016 “a searchable database with information on more than 200,000 offshore entities that are part of the Panama Papers investigation.”

According to ICIJ, the database will likely be the largest ever release of secret offshore companies and the people behind them.

But within 10 minutes of publishing the documents, the website holding the database crashed.

After trying without success to access the website, ghanabusinessnews.com put out a call to the Centre for Public Integrity the mother organization of ICIJ, and the official on the other side of the line said, soon after our initial introduction “the database has crashed, we are working at restoring it.”

With the high worldwide interest, very high anxiety and expectations awaiting the publication, it is to be expected.
