Drones could replace services and labour valued at $127b – PwC
A PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) study estimates that in the future, drones are likely to replace current business services and labour valued $127.3 billion.
The drone revolution is disrupting industries and drones are poised to impact business operations in a broad range of industries. According to the research company Gfk, an estimated 4.3 million drones were shipped in 2015, generating $1.7 billion, an increase of about 167 per cent year-on-year.
PwC predicts drones are likely to cause the greatest disruption in infrastructure projects, agriculture and transport, more than others.
In a report titled “Clarity From Above”, PwC says the value of prospective drone applications in infrastructure projects around the world could be as high as $45.2 billion; agriculture, $32.4 billion; and transport, $13 billion.
Michal Mazur, partner and head of PwC’s Drone Powered Solutions centre for Central and Eastern Europe was quoted as saying: “We are currently in discussion with several major companies from a wide range of industries about how they can use drones to improve their business processes. This got us thinking about the potential value of the global drone-powered solutions market. With an estimated market value of over $127 bn in commercial applications, drones are making the transition from novelty item to indispensable business tool.”
