President swears-in members of Civil Service Council
President John Dramani Mahama has sworn in a six-member Council of Civil Service, with a call on them to perform their duties devoid of partisanship and partiality.
“You must respect the civil service code of conduct that believes in honesty, integrity and impartiality and exhibit high level neutrality and non-partisanship.”
The new members who took the Oaths of Allegiance, Office and Secrecy include: L.B Tusoe, Chairman of the Council; Madam Eugenia Adomako Gyasi and Mr E.P.D Barnes, retired civil servants; and Nana Akwasi Agyeman Dwamena, Head of Civil Service.
The rest are: Mr Isaac Asiamah, representing the National Development Planning Commission and Mr Isaac Bampoe-Addo Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana.
The members are to among other things, serve as the governing body of the Civil Service, train members of the service and to provide periodic review of the civil service.
President Mahama said the civil service is plagued with challenges that are hampering productivity, and urged them to make use of their experience and expertise to invigorate the service.
He mentioned bureaucracy and numerous bottlenecks as major challenges stifling the onward march and development of the service and tasked the council to work towards the elimination of these bottlenecks for the service to triumph in the coming days.
He urged them to strengthen the monitoring and evaluation units, to ensure that lateness, absenteeism and other negative practices towards work are eliminated.
The President said: “Deepening of openness and transparency are necessary to ensure that the Ministries, Departments and Agencies work effectively and according to their code of conduct.”
Nana Dwamena, Head of the Civil Service commended the past Council for establishing the performance agreement with the Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
He appealed to President Mahama to periodically meet with Chief Directors in the civil service in order to share ideas that would leverage the performance of the service.
Mr Tusoe, Chairman of the Council pledged on behalf of other members, to adhere to the code of conduct of the service to bring out best practices among civil servants.
