Trader remanded for transporting illegal ammo
A trader caught with large quantity of illegal ammunition has been remanded into prison custody by a Sunyani Circuit Court.
The trader by name of Soobin was transporting boxes of ‘AAA’ cartridges from Kumasi to the Northern Region, when these were found by the police on the Kintampo-Tamale highway.
He is facing charges of unlawful possession of ammunition and transporting ammunition without authority.
He pleaded not guilty.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Christopher Tawiah, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, said the ammunition had been concealed on a mini-bus and was intercepted by the police following a tip-off.
The driver of the vehicle was arrested and he mentioned one Kolan as the owner but he could not produce any legal document covering the cartridges.
