Central Region records 414 fire outbreaks

FireThe Central Region recorded a total of 414 fire incidents in the first quarter of 2016.

Two hundred and forty one (241) of the cases recorded were bush fires, 69 domestic cases, 24 electrical, eight were commercial, and four were false calls.

There were 21 incident of saw dust, petroleum spillage, refuse and gas leakages.

The Acting Regional Fire Officer, Divisional Office One Fanny Simpson, made this known when she paid a day’s working visit to the New Komenda Sugar Factory to inspect fire safety measures.

She said most domestic fire outbreaks could be prevented if good measures were taken, and advised Ghanaians to take precautionary measures to prevent fire outbreaks.

She expressed worry about the increasing number of fire outbreaks in the Region, saying the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) would re-double its efforts through education and awareness creation campaigns on fire safety measures

The visit formed part of a familiarisation tour to some high risk areas in the Region to ensure that fire safety standards are duly followed.

She explained that the Sugar factory is an important asset of the country and therefore the GNFS has to ensure it’s safely.

She said the GNFS would train workers of the factory on basic firefighting and prevention and how to carry out simulation exercises, so that they could respond swiftly and professionally in the advent of any incident.
