As Britain votes to leave EU, Cameron steps down in October
British Prime Minister, David Cameron has announced he will step down in October 2016 to make way for a leader committed to carrying out the will of the people.
His announcement comes as the British voted in a referendum to exit the European Union. Voters asking Britain to leave won by 52 per cent to 48 per cent. More than 17.4 million people voted in the referendum on Thursday to leave the European Union, and about 16.1 million voted to remain.
On the heels of the vote, the financial markets plunged, the value of the British pound and stock prices in Asia dipped.
The London, Frankfurt, Tokyo, and New York stock markets are expected to plummet.
The decision has shocked Europe, as Britain is the second largest economy in Europe after Germany.
