Residents vow to resist attempts to re-open stone quarry
The people of Paebo, near Adoagyiri have expressed strong opposition to attempts by the operators of the Peabo Quarry Limited to re-open it and vowed to resist that.
An explosion at the quarry on December 24, last year, led to some deaths, seriously hurt many and caused massive damage to property.
There is therefore anxiety and apprehension among the residents about reports that it is going to be restarted.
Addressing a press conference in Nsawam, Alhaji Lukman Usman Ali, Chairman of Disaster Victims Association, warned, that could put the lives of more people in danger.
He therefore appealed to the Nsawam-Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to act together to ensure that the quarry remained perpetually shut.
Every effort must be made to stop the renewal of its operation permit to protect the people.
He accused the management of the company of insensitivity, saying, it neither found it appropriate to visit the victims to sympathize nor compensate them for the loss suffered.
