NDC and NPP accused of being insensitive to workers

NPP_NDCMr Emmanuel, former employee of Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has accused the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the main New Patriotic Party (NPP) for not having the welfare of the ex- workers at heart.

He claimed that the issue of payment of benefits due to the former workers cropped up in Parliament in 2003, before Parliamentarians including President John Dramani Mahama and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, but they did nothing about it.

The 74 -year old who lives under a tree in Tema, told the Ghana News Agency that he is still waiting to be paid his entitlements before he travels to his hometown in the Central Region.

He said: “ God used the late President John Evans Atta Mills to do justice to us by issuing a fiat for payment in July 2012, but unfortunately, he passed away within a short time and since then nothing has been heard from the Mahama government.

“Nana Akufo Addo as Attorney General and Minister of Justice could have solved the problem but he also did not.”

GPHA has paid five people out of the more than 3000 ex-workers.
