Newly-weds can now change names – EC
Mr Steve Opoku-Mensah, Western Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, has said women who got married after registering with the EC now have the opportunity to change their names to reflect their current status.
These women, he said, however, must visit the exhibition centre with a copy of the marriage certificate and other relevant document as prove of change in status.
The Regional EC Boss told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that around 2936 centres has been created for registrants of both 2012 and 2016 to check the spelling of their names as well as effect any relevant corrections on their data with the EC.
The exhibition exercise which is supposed to last for 21 days beginning July, 18 also allows citizens to object to names of minors, non-residents and non-Ghanaians.
Mr Opoku-Mensah said one key feature of the exercise, would be the use of biometric verification machines to verify individuals adding, “Once the machine verifies you, you are sure to vote in the coming elections”.
He called on the electorates and registered Ghanaians to check for their names in the Register to ensure that they exercised their franchise come November 7.
