Only five Americans in Ghanaian prisons
The US prison system makes news in that country and around the world, and according to the US Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS), at the end of 2014, there were more than 6.8 million persons in prison in that country.
But the BJS puts it this way, “adult correctional systems supervised an estimated 6,851,000 persons at year end 2014.”
The BJS additional records other categories of prisoners.
There are however, only five American citizens in prison in Ghana, the US Ambassador to Ghana has told ghanabusinessnews.com, in an exclusive interview.
“Five Americans are currently in prison in Ghana, four for narcotic offences. That number is going to decrease, as two of them are going to complete their sentences in the next few weeks,” Mr. Robert P. Jackson said.
