CPP pledges to deliver strong agricultural growth
The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has promised massive investment in the agricultural sector to return it to growth, if given the mandate to govern the nation by voters.
Mr. Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, the Flagbearer, said farmers would be given strong support by way of the supply of equipment and other farming inputs to boost production and returns.
He was addressing party supporters at separate rallies in Ahenkro in the Afigya-Kwabre South and Akumadan in the Offinso North constituencies.
Mr. Greenstreet is on a six-day election campaign tour of the Ashanti Region to woo more voters.
He stated that his government would not pay lip service to farmers but work with zeal to make agriculture attractive and rewarding.
He spoke of agricultural mechanization, construction of irrigation and storage facilities, and improvement of roads leading to the farming communities.
Additionally, bottlenecks in the marking of farm produce were going to be tackled.
He expressed concern about the situation where fruits and vegetables went bad during the peak production period and said steps would be taken to end that.
Mr. Greenstreet said they were going to focus on fighting rural poverty to stop the rural-urban drift and this could be achieved through the setting up of farmers’ brigade or plantation development.
His government was going to make sure that there was access to farmlands by young people eager to go into agriculture.
He repeated that the CPP was going to lead the nation back to prosperity – establish industries, ensure stable electricity supply and give jobs.
