Vittles 2016 Food Festival to feature Cacao Show

ChocolatecakeThe Vittles Food Festival 2016 is set to feature the first edition of ‘The Cacao Show,’ a specialised competition which places a spotlight on sweeter delicacies such as cakes and chocolates made right here in Ghana.

A statement copied to the Ghana News Agency from Diffusion Limited, organisers of “Accra’s Three Tastiest Days”, as the festival is dubbed, said a dozen contestants have been shortlisted to participate in the competition for the ultimate prize of a British Airways ticket to London.

“From doughnuts to ‘domedo’, waffles to ‘waakye’, and popsicles to pizza, the Vittles 2016 food festival is promising a grand array of mouth-watering delights for ‘foodies’ in Ghana”, it said.

Vittles 2016 will take place from 29 to 31 July, 2016, at the Regent Gardens, adjacent to The African Regent Hotel.

Mr Leroy Ankrah, Principal Consultant at Diffusion Limited, said “With about a week to go, we are still getting calls from interested vendors, but the spaces were completely sold out as of the end of June. I honestly wish we could fit them all in, but we have simply run out of space.”

He said the team also feel “greatly inspired” by the response to the event on social media; “It’s almost impossible to work effectively in 2016 without technology and we have used these tools to a good extent to engage a lot more than we did during our previous event” he said.

Mr Ankrah said @vittlesghana pages on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter have engaged over 9,000 Ghanaians, mainly women between the ages of 25 and 34 years, within the past four weeks alone, with the most popular posts being those that showcase food from participating vendors.

“This is particularly encouraging, because our basic aim behind the food festival is to showcase the best eateries in Accra and all the great food they have on offer. We are looking forward to them coming over to taste the food,” said Mr Ankrah.

The festival will have a dedicated Children’s Zone, managed by BerryBears Kids events, and will also feature the Onga Cooking Competition for Vocational/Culinary school students, as well as live cooking demonstrations.

“Diffusion Ltd is also maintaining its partnership with the Ghana branch of global anti-poverty charity organisation, The Hunger Project. The Vittles 2016 food festival event is helping to raise awareness and funding, through a portion of the gate proceeds, to support The Hunger Project’s activities in Ghana.”
