China-Ghana Graduates Association inaugurated

The China Ghana Graduates Association (CGGA) was on Tuesday inaugurated in Accra.

The Association seeks to deepen relations between China and Ghana and also further the learning of each other’s culture.

Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, Minister of Youth and Sports, who jointly unveiled the CGGA logo with Madam Sun Baohong, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, said it was heartwarming to note that young people of today, were furthering the rich relations between China and Ghana, which dated back to the days of Ghana’s Founding Father, Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

“In a world that has become a global village, we need to tap in on each other’s strengths, for our common growth.”

He said the Chinese Government had been a good friend and partner to Ghana and the youth could learn from Chinese culture, especially their penchant for strict discipline and hard work.

He urged the members of the CGGA to strive to have a positive influence on the youth and the nation as whole.

Madam Sun Baohong, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, said the CGGA would grow to become a bed-rock of China-Ghana relations.

She said presently, the Chinese government had granted over 500 Ghanaian students scholarships to study in China, with over 4,600 Ghanaian students financing their own education in China.

Madam Sun said Ghanaian students excelled in both academic work as well as exemplary behaviour.

She said China ranked second best in the world’s top economies, because of its ability to come up with effective mechanisms for socio-economic progress, over the past 5,000 years.

Madam Sun said China was prepared to transfer their know-how to Ghana, in order to ensure that the country (Ghana) had the right requirements for sustainable economic growth.

She said it was very important that the CGGA was supported by the Government of Ghana, as well as the Chinese Embassy, to achieve its aims.

The program was interspersed by poetry recitals and a cultural display.
