Adequate security measures in place for peaceful polls – Minister
The Interior Minister, Mr. Prosper Bani, has underlined the government’s determination to make sure that this year’s general election is peaceful and free from violence.
He said they would not take chances and that adequate security measures had been put in place to promote law and order.
It was in line with this that the security agencies were being provided with the vital equipment and logistics they required to efficiently perform their duties.
Mr. Bani, on a two-day working visit to the Ashanti Region, was addressing a meeting with police officers in Kumasi.
Accompanied by Inspector-General Police (IGP) John Kudalor, he indicated that everybody would have to get right with the law.
“We expect our security agencies not to compromise on their responsibilities for whatever reason”, he said, and demanded that the security personnel demonstrated strong commitment to duty at all times.
He would inspect various development projects being executed by the police under public-private-partnership agreement, meet with the traditional authorities and the Election Security Taskforce during the visit.
He would additionally tour emergency operation centres of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to assess the state of readiness and preparedness to deal with emergency situations.
Mr. Bani gave high marks to the Regional Police Command for the stepped up fight to bring down crime.
“I am impressed with your general conduct, which had seen robbery cases, arms and human trafficking and other crime-related activities reduced to the barest minimum”, he said.
IGP Kudalor cautioned the officers and men against acts of indiscipline and said the Police Administration would be ruthless with offenders.
Again, those who contravened the code of ethics must be ready to face the appropriate sanctions.
