Ghana government acts to promote efficient land management

She announced this at a stakeholder consultative meeting with members of the Standing Committee of the National House of Chiefs (NHC) in Kumasi.

Ms. Serwaa-Asamoah indicated that the need for a robust, consolidated and up-to-date legal framework that took into account modern methods of surveying, land administration and conveyancing could not be underestimated.

This was required “as part of the new infrastructure that must be laid for a good, transparent, cost-effective and efficient land administration system”, she added.

The workshop formed part of the series of engagements with major stakeholders on the draft bill to solicit their views and opinions to fine-tune it.

It is also meant to ensure that there is broad acceptance of the bill.

The Deputy Minister said this was important considering the fact that land ownership and management arrangement in Ghana involved “a complex hierarchy of several interests mixed with each other at different levels”.

Wulugu Naba Pugansoa, Naa Professor John S. Nabila, President of the NHC, said as custodians of lands – a source of economic wealth, these could not be managed without them if the wealth so created from the lands was to benefit the society.

He said it was on the account of this that, the workshop was important to enable them to make input into the new land bill.
