Bible Society of Ghana supplies bibles to courts in Western Region
The Bible Society of Ghana, has donated 20 pieces of the English Standard Version of the Holy Bible to the Judiciary Service, to aid in oath swearing during court proceedings.
The donation was made possible upon a request by Nana Gyentsi Amoako X, the Chief of Akwidaa-Akyinim in the Ahanta West Traditional Area, to the Bible Society.
The Chief indicated that he once had a civil case in one of the district courts in the Region and was asked to swear an oath with a tattered Bible, saying: “It’s a mockery of the whole truth in evidence.”
He said that scenario motivated him to solicit support from the Society, in order to aid the various courts in the Region to execute their mandate constitutionally.
At the presentation ceremony at the Sekondi High Court, Mr Kweku Kum, the Chairman of the Western Region Sector of the Bible Society of Ghana, commended the Chief for the initiative and gave the assurance that the Society would continue its philanthropic gesture to the Judiciary Service at all times.
Receiving the bibles on behalf of the Judiciary Service, Justice Peter Kwabena Ababio, a Vacation Judge, expressed appreciation to the Society and the Chief for the gesture.
He said some of the bibles would be used for teachings during morning devotions therefore, asked for more of such support.
Mr Kofi Diaba, the Regional President of the Ghana Bar Association, urged Ghanaians to be bold and patriotic enough to correct wrongdoings in the society.
